A team from the U.S. Consulate in Toronto once again participated in the Becel Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart on the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway on June 1. The Consulate team joined more than 12,000 bicycle riders who raised over $ 3 million to help the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario support research on stroke drugs and surgical techniques, as well as fund 100 scientific studies and science grants. This date coincides with a period when Cubans all over the island commemorate Cuban patriots who have suffered at the hands of the regime for the cause of freedom and human rights. The vessels were discovered in the late 1970s and ownership of the vessels was transferred from the U.S. Navy to the Royal Ontario Museum and later to the City of Hamilton as part of the Hamilton and Scourge National Historic Site. In partnership with many entities, the city sent down Remote Operating Vehicles to assess the condition of the underwater site. To conclude the week of inspection, U.S. Consul General John R. Nay spoke at a memorial service held aboard the CCGS Griffon to commemorate the lost crew. Annual Crossing Borders Conference - Click to view slideshow On April 3 and 4, the University at Buffalo, in conjunction with partners Brock University, the Canadian Consulate General in Buffalo and the U.S. Consulate General in Toronto, hosted the annual Crossing Borders conference Sixty students from nine colleges and universities presented papers on border-related issues this year. Lauren Rachlin opened the conference with a provocative talk on “Regional or binational . . . call it what you will. It’s our future or we have none” and USAF Col. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative Under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), for entry into the United States at land or sea borders, as of January 31, 2008:
– Oral declarations of citizenship alone will no longer be accepted;
– U.S. and Canadian citizens ages 19 and older will need to present a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate;
– Children ages 18 and under will only be required to present proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate;
– Passports and trusted traveler program cards – NEXUS, FAST, and SENTRI – will continue to be accepted for cross-border travel. All existing nonimmigrant visa and passport requirements will remain in effect and will not be altered by this change. A passport has been required for air travel since January 23, 2007. Washington — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Department of State (DOS) announced today the final rule for the land and sea portion of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), a core 9/11 Commission recommendation. The WHTI final rule requires travelers to present a passport or other approved secure document denoting citizenship and identity for all land and sea travel into the United States. WHTI establishes document requirements for travelers entering the United States who were previously exempt, including citizens of the U.S., Canada and Bermuda. The vessels were discovered in the late 1970s and ownership of the vessels was transferred from the U.S. Navy to the Royal Ontario Museum and later to the City of Hamilton as part of the Hamilton and Scourge National Historic Site. In partnership with many entities, the city sent down Remote Operating Vehicles to assess the condition of the underwater site. To conclude the week of inspection, U.S. Consul General John R. Nay spoke at a memorial service held aboard the CCGS Griffon to commemorate the lost crew.
